utmost bullshit. period.Â
but you can try me if you think im that bad

I think most of your defeat reports start like "I had bad starting conditions". Look at other top players' reports and they never or rarely complain about that.

ps: gab arrived with 5-6 wyvern from his dragon dwelling, 1 king shock serpent at gold medal, a few tier3, but mostly other tier2 of which some were at gold rank too

dont really feel like taking much credit for this defeat, as i played as efficient as i could but the starting conditions were clearly not in my favor.Â
the first few turns were good (1-5 ca.), i leveled up fast, sacrificing 1 or maybe 2 units for the purpose. but then: the second orc city of town-size was hostile to me. now i had a big problem. because there werent any other structures to clear within a 2turn distance or so, but i needed more easy structures to become stronger. i tried to entice the AI with a unit into leaving the city and attacking me. but they didnt and i wasted a turn like this. i thought i needed this town now in order to remain in schedule. but it was quite well defended: 2 orc priests, 2 black knights, 1 infantry and several tier1 irregular at least. i had not more than 6 units, of which two were cherubs, and i lost everything apart from leader, hero and cavalry in that fight. at least i had the town then. of course the whole development went really slow from then on. but not only that orc town was hostile to me, also the nearby naga dwelling. no quest until mid-20-turns.Â
i cleared defensively, because i expected gab in the 20s at last. but he didnt show up. finally i decided sent my evangelist-crusader-stack into the ug, because thats where the nearest structures were. and they cleared quite well. eventually i got a spirit elemental in turn 32, after having cleared 2 towers and 1 sanctum. but that did help anymore because gab arrived with all heros and 22 other units + lots of crows on the brink of my base. my ug troop was too far away and would have never been back in time, even if gab didnt kill my cherubs some turns earlier, which i sent because i knew he was coming with something and even though i built A LOT of roads just to speed up my progress and be on the safer side defensively.Â

we played a long game. i didnt get a t3 early on. priority of modding should be nothing but:
- dreadnought
- water mp- and defense-penalty
- scorched earth
- roads
- city / base defense
because that's where the dog lies buried (to mistranslate a German saying)
i ll send you another email soon and you may delete the last one i send to you.Â

Ok, Large maps tend to facilitate what happened to you but I think we have an issue with the Quests. It's not the first time I read a lot of powerful rewards from Quests and I experienced it myself on a recent game + to a lesser degree the Top 8 game with a lot of T4 rewards.
Do you remember the difficulty level (displayed in game) for the T3 Quests?
I think we need to make sure T3 are not rewarded in Easy Quests and Medium Quests are not provided early on, see https://forum.paradoxplaza.co...

mc was not as present as rrrookie makes it sound. i was offered 1 or 2 shock troopers by a vassal quest, a gryphon rider by a vassal quest, 3 shock troopers by fulfilling the 8 city eq, i got several fairies and hunters as reward from structures, i bought a dwarf firstborn. i also gained two wyvern from my dragon vassal, and summoned two frost elementals.
i only had one stack with 3 evangelists in it. i had a flying stack under my leader, and with that one i was quite productive, also converting some units a long the way.Â
we played a 50 turn game on a large map. i had 9 or 10 cities and also build impalers nonestop in one city to be ready for an exalted attack from rrrookie.Â
at least for the beginning i didnt have a strong game. i rather accidentally ended up in front of rrrookie's base. i destroyed one city and but then had to retreat. rrrookie lost one city and couldnt clear many more structures. i united troops, added more units, and then just came back from the same direction, supported by another strong group coming from the south.Â
if you lose one city and must return to your base and then cannot clear many more structures, then, after a while, you ll lose the game. rrrookie did lose to mc, rather to flying mobility and lack of clearing structures. mobility and aggressive playstyles - what aow3 is all about
Written on 2019-07-07 22:47:31
Did the MC mainly occur through heroes/Leader or Evangelist?

Phirpo snowballed out of control in a strange game. Our thrones were not opposite each other on the map whcih threw me off a little bit. Phirpo was able to MC many units and had built a lot of exalted by the time the game was over. I could have held out a few more turns for him to defeat me in a big battle but even if I had beaten him once he had many more powerful stacks.
As you can see the game was over many turns ago: Also wow look at his score.

nice story, i only have to add a few things.
while lobo had a fun time on the surface, clearing a lot of structures at first, it became obvious to us at dread AND marcus were both on the way to my base. logical, because they were both dwarvs and both quick in the ug. and of course they did not want to let a goblin warlord expand. so i had to loop back and be ready with all i had. luckily, goblins allowed me not only to compensate losses and build up reinforcements quickly, but also to continue expanding. so dread decided to change his route and went up to the surface, and also marcus decided not to engage me. from then on, the goblins played the eco card. i could pay back double the gold lobo borrowed me earlier in time of need and still boomed away. and yes i lost my hero, but i gained resurrect hero very soon after, so it came back after a couple of turns.

So here is my summary of the match. As everybody can see from the title of the game all players choose a warlord.
I expected Dread attacking early on with MH and because my plan was the same I need to find a race where the MH will win fights against other MH when the stacks are even. I choose frostlings because of the chance for immobilising and therefore reducing the chance for flanking. Specialisation was explorer to get +8 MP and free moving for my MH.
I started in the mid east on the surface, Phirpo started nearly at the same position in the UG. Just one thing to report about the first 10 turns. My ally stole my free city upgrade and then returned to his swampy lands! I was quite pissed about that. We have to discuss this, Phirpo! ;-)
I have had a good game until turn 15 where some orcs sent my leader to the void for no reason. Just one really bad move and focuse fire on my leader let him die with 55 HP in just one turn. I think Hiliadan is the top player who loses his leader the most against the Ai but I am coming to get that title!Â
With my 2nd hero I built a stack with berserks and ice scrapers heading south. Just the turn my leader came back from the void I decided to play a turn when I came home late at night and a bit drunk. The result was not that good and even sober this would have been a tough battle. I think Seer is familiar with this situation. One beer too much means wrecking in AoW.
All in all I wasted a good game for no reason within 3 turns. The only good thing was that my theocrat was doing well in the northern lands. At that point we already knew that we are facing two dwarven warlords. Quite nasty for frostlings who hate subterranous terrain.
In turn 19 my theocrat reaches level 11 and with devine justicars I was now able to clear some sites I spared in due to reapers.
In turn 24 Phipo lost his level 11 sorcerer (5 exp missing to level 12). That could have been avoided but regarding my silly behaviour in turn 15 and 18 it was not the right time giving advice for tactical combats. ^^
At that point the battles between the MH began. I was one-turning them at my throne an built MH in another city too. I think I stopped at that point I had about 15 of them. Already researched +8 MP and free movement so these stacks were very mobile. Dread has taken this specialisation too so no advantage in due to mobility for any of us.
In turn 27 we spotted Dreads leaderstack near a cave entrance in the central UG quite close to my leaderstack near this entrance at the surface. That was dangerous because I havn't had that much units with me so I decided to retreat and go west on the surface.
Turn 28 I killed 2 elite MH from Dread with 3 of mine and an embarked ice scraper and just lost the scraper. Also I took a fey dwelling (vasall) from Marcus. My leader survived with 8 HP but I could get him to 12 HP by removing the dire bear mount giving + 5 HP and give it back serveral times. That's a nice thing even if 4 HP is not a game changing amount of extra HP regeneration. I sent a stack of MH to the UG to support Phirpo against Dreads leaderstack. Dread did not move to the center UG so we were expecting him attacking from the north.
Turn 29 we spotted Marcus leaderstack or at least some troops. We were expecting more phalanxes near this stack. Additionally I could kill 3 MH from Dread attacking my former vasall from the north.
Turn 31 my theocrat reached a cave entrance far in the north-west. I've spotted some MH and a zephir and I was sure that this leads directly to Dreads realm in the UG. I put all my troops together and planned to enter the UG the next turn.
Turn 32 was Dreads nemesis more or less. First he attacked my theocrat and lost. I did not lose much units in due to devine justicars.
Additionally the positioning of his leaderstack was really shitty. Phirpo sent his army next to him and I attacked with my MH . At this point he had lost nearly all of his troops and the way to his throne was open.
I lost my 3rd hero in a sphinx temple but regarding the two big battles I wasn't that sad about my AD. ^^
In turn 33 I entered the UG with my theocrat and scouted with the flyer how to get to Dreads throne asap to kill him. We found Marcus' main army 2-3 turns away from my realm. It looks not that strong but these elite phlanxes with tireless and meditate are really crazy!
I found my way to Dreads throne and in turn 34, two turns after he lost the two big battles, he was out of the game.
The same turn my leaderstack entered the UG from the south-west and took the first town from Marcus.
I scouted several turns before with two wargs and was hiding them in the forest hexes. Phirpo attacked Marcus realm from the center and my theocrat came from the north. The plan was to quickly take all of Marcus' cities and then take care of his main army heading to my realm. I built walls in my towns and the frostling building which inflicts chilling every round on enemy units. Additionally I produced a lot of ice scrapers to increase the chances for freezing enemys.
Turn 35 Phirpo took a town from Marcus' vasall. I took a town from indies which was Dreads town before.
In due to the face that I couldn't unite my leaderstack with my theocrat without losing 5 or 6 turns I decided to bait Marcus' defending troops at his throne with my leader. Yes, not really what I want to do but in this situation I wasn't able to find a better solution.
Marcus killed my leader in turn 37...
But my initial plan worked and I was able to kill the remaining troops and take his throne in turn 38.
While all this happened Phirpo build up his economy and cleared a lot of stuff in the UG. With his strong eco we could take our time and wait for Marcus main stacks. That's what we did until turn 44. I did another bait at my throne while my leader was on the water with some MH and a flyer. Marcus could have killed my leader using death march or taking my throne but I was sure he wasn't strong enough to win both fights. He decided to take my throne but as you can see in the screen Phirpo was already wating for him.
Imo the jey for our win was a very good map control and the face that we took Dread out of the game wihtin 3 turns. We were able to quickly enter Marcus realm and attack from 3 directions. Very nice game imo and we should keep this setting in mind. All players starting with the same class could be fun with other classes as well!

Very brief game. I cant say I rushed to Dread, but in search of structures to clear I somehow ended up just in front of his base. Dread hadnt ghouled units yet, as far as I knew, and then he must have taken a too risky fight, coz he gave up. I assume he wanted to convert some undeads in a tomb. But he would probably have lost a confrontation anyway, because I would have gained 100% spirit protection and holy champions with my theo hero next turn.Â

a trap in a trap
not a great game from both of us. mahimka manage to destroy one city, but that wasnt much because i had several more, and he could not advance further with his very mobile stack of eagles, led by an ad hero, because i had just the right defense ready for him.Â
then a decisive moment. mahimka laid a trap for a part of my army that he observed continuously, over-observed obviously. and i laid a trap in the trap. because after he won the first battle at great cost, he was finished off by my leader's stack. and then i was only 3 turns away from his capital. his leader came back in time, but he lost every one of his three cities due to "scorched earth". and that was the end of the game.
